Magic Chiapas

MONTE BELLO LAKES

It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful natural sites in the country, it is due to its aquatic environments, both superficial and subterranean nature, framed in dense pine forests, oak forests and mixed forests with the striking presence of bromeliads and orchids.

The lakes are "uvalas" or ancient cenotes that the corrosion of the limestone rock and the landslides have been uniting through time. Many of the bodies of water are nameless. Their number is uncertain, although it is said that they are 59 lakes. This place is famous for the colors of its waters, these are due to several factors, including the types of bottom soil, vegetation and refraction of light.

The visit takes place in two paths, the first one leads to the National Park itself, where the Emerald, La Encantada, Bosque Azul, Ensueño and Agua Tinta lakes are surrounded by pine forests. Next to them there are some services and besides the possibility to make excursions towards San Rafael, a natural arch of 40 meters of height, where the small stream of water known as Paso del Soldado is submerged. The other road leads to the lakes that coordinates the community, Cañada, Pojoj, Tziscao and Dos Lagunas, among others. Lake Tziscao is one of the largest and deepest (45 m) and is already on the Guatemalan border.
