VELO DE NOVIA WATERFALL
These beautiful waterfalls are surrounded by plantations of sugarcane and tropical forest. It is possible to stay in any of the two Ecotourism Centers located on each river bank, one of them is managed by the National Commission for the Development of Indigenous Peoples and has 12 rustic cabins with all services, restaurant, camping area, shop and Artisanal center. The way to explore the waterfalls is on foot, walking along different paths that lead to different viewpoints from which you can enjoy spectacular views
The famous waterfalls are formed by the San Vicente River and were named The Sigh, Angel Wing, Rainbow, Quinceañera and Veil Bride with is the highest waterfall of the region measuring 70 m. In addition, the river is forming pools of turquoise blue water ideal for swimming.
During the walk you can see the local flora and fauna formed by a great variety of orchid species, bromeliads, sabino trees, palomillo, chicozapote, cedar and mahogany trees, to mention a few. Iguanas, rabbits, armadillos, snakes and various birds will come out of your way.
Below the Bride's Veil, where the climb finishes, there is a two-station zip line that crosses the impressive canyon formed by the San Vicente River; The second station crosses right in front of the Bride Veil.
Tip: Close to these waterfalls you can visit the archaeological zone of Chinkultic, the former convent of Copanahuastla and the Church of San Cristobalito, dating from the 16th century.
